10 Breakfast Sandwich Ideas

Disclosure: I am a Hamilton Beach Ambassador and received their breakfast sandwich maker to review. Regardless, opinions and statements are 100% mine and yours may differ.

There was a point in my life that I ate an Egg McMuffin an average of 4 times per week. I would roll through the drive thru on the way to work and not even blink an eye. I didn’t mind shelling out the bucks for a breakfast sandwich, after all, everyone kept telling me breakfast was the most important meal of the day. Fast forward a few years and I now work from home. It would just be silly to get in the car and drive to get breakfast. That would mean losing an extra 20 minutes of sleep and that just isn’t going to happen.

Hamilton Beach Breakfast Sandwich Maker

I used to fry up an egg, toast some bread and make an egg sandwich. It wasn’t anything special but it did the trick. Then, I was introduced to the Hamilton Beach Breakfast Sandwich maker and my life was changed. No more standing over the stove waiting for my egg to cook, no more toasting bread. And the best thing? My options are unlimited. If I’m in the mood for ham, bacon or even pepperoni (don’t knock it until you try it), I can customize my breakfast sandwich however I want. Something I guarantee you can’t do at the McMuffin place.

how to make a breakfast sandwich

This thing is pretty easy to use. All you do is plug it and wait for the green light to come on. Once the green light turns on, you add the bread of your choice and close the egg plate/top ring. Then you add any cheese, meats and your egg and top it with a piece of bread. It takes 4-5 minutes to cook and then wallah, you have your very own breakfast sandwich. Now I know this isn’t how the instructions say to use it but I’ve found if I put my egg directly on the egg plate, it may or may not stick. To avoid that, I put the cheese on the bottom of the egg plate because the fat makes it easy to slide right out. Β It doesn’t always look the prettiest but it still tastes great and my veggies are cooked through. As a precaution, make sure you use this where no little hands (or paws) can get to it. This thing gets extremely hot and I’ve burned myself a few times.

10 breakfast sandwich ideas

So now that you have this fabulous kitchen gadget, you need recipes! Here are 10 breakfast sandwich ideas to get you started. You’ll find once you make a few, you’ll think of all sorts of food combinations. Just remember, the meats that you add should be precooked. I don’t want anyone thinking just because the breakfast sandwich maker gets super hot it can cook raw meat. It can’t. And I don’t want you to get sick so please don’t try it!

  1. English muffin (I prefer Bays), ham, American cheese and egg.
  2. English muffin, precooked sausage, American cheese and egg
  3. English muffin, diced portobella mushrooms, fontina cheese and egg.
  4. English muffin, spinach, Canadian bacon, egg and top with hollandaise sauce.
  5. Bagel (Trader Joe’s works well), pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, sliced pepperoni and egg.
  6. Bagel, sliced tomato, spinach and egg.
  7. Precooked pancakes, sausage and egg. Make sure to drizzle with real maple syrup!
  8. Croissant, cheddar cheese, thinly sliced green apple, precooked bacon and egg.
  9. Croissant, nutella and marshmallows (try it, trust me you will love it).
  10. Frozen waffles, precooked sausage, cheddar cheese and egg. Oh what the heck, drizzle it with maple syrup too and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

I know what you’re thinking. This is great if I’m making a sandwich for one but I have several kids and if one gets a hot breakfast sandwich, the others will want one too. No worries! At the beginning of the week, make up a bunch of sandwiches and then freeze them. The kid who gets an A on their test gets a fresh sandwich in the morning and the kid who causes trouble, well, they get the frozen one. Just pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds or so (test this on your microwave). That’s one way to motivate them, right? Food (and sleep) always motivate me. πŸ™‚
