Everyone has a sweet spot. You know, that time of day where you’re really productive and can get things done! For me, that time starts around 9 pm and ends around midnight. Those three hours are golden. My to-do lists shrink, my stress level decreases and I go to bed feeling like I accomplished something, a lot of somethings.
The downside to my golden hours are that I don’t get as much sleep as I probably should. During the week, I average about 6 hours a night. That means around 3 o’clock in the afternoon, I start dragging. Afternoon slump is an understatement. All I want to do is lay my head down on my desk and take a nap or better yet, crawl under my desk with a pillow and a blanket. In theory that sounds like a great plan until the possibility of getting fired enters my mind.
So instead of possibly getting fired, I’ve resorted to doing something we should all do: snack. Yes, you heard that correctly. I truly believe that eating every 3 hours keeps my energy level up. But before you break out that bag of cookies or greasy potato chips and say, “Sarah told me to do it,” I’m going to let you in on my new favorite afternoon snack…Plenti Yogurt from Yoplait.
Instead of eating a sugary snack that is going to make me crash and burn later, around 2:30 I grab a container of my favorite Plenti Yogurt (I’m partial to blueberry). Unlike other products out there, this Greek yogurt has everything I need to keep me going. The blueberry flavor has 12 grams of protein and 12 grams of sugar, keeping a 1:1 ratio and most importantly, it tastes good. The added oats, flax seeds and pumpkin seeds give it the needed texture. I no longer have to add granola or other items to my yogurt because Plenti has everything I need.
It’s now 10:07 pm and guess what, I’m getting stuff done! So far this evening I’ve read all my friends Facebook updates, followed several new people on Instagram and browsed Pinterest looking for guest book ideas…hehe. Now, I said all that in jest (for my fiancee who may be reading this) but the reality is, I’ve found a healthy, high-protein snack that gets my through the afternoon yawns!
What are you favorite afternoon snacks?
